If the device is configred by straps.
Can I only connect the RGMII interface and used a "standard" Microchip PHY?

• what do you mean "standard" microchip Phy? do you mean phy-only device?
• where do you want to use RGMII interface to & from? KSZ switch to other devices? SoC to KSZ switches?

I would like to connect TI Sitara MCU (AM335x) to the Ethernet switch RGMII port. (Sitara has RGMII port).
But since there isn't any driver yet for latest linux, and I currently doesn't need the advanced features of the switch (just like unmanaged switch) I though to just configure my Sitara linux kernel to see the RGMII port connected to the switch as it connected to a RGMII PHY.

Is it possible?

The SOC MAC driver need some modification. For reference please see the macb driver (Atmel SAMA5 SOC mac driver).

The driver is for KSZ9477 , for KSZ9897 I should use the same driver?
Can you share example on build configuration & device tree to use with that driver?

The KSZ9477 is super set of all KSZ9xxx series devices. Hence the driver is same.
