In the guidance for contributing sitings via the Acartia API, the type field (holding the species observed) seems to be missing. Specifically, in step 5 there is no mention of type while the species observed is obviously a critical part of any Acartia data record!
Ideally, we'd include the type field in the documentation under step 5 -- along with accepted values for the field. The values for any data provider will ideally be consistent with the ones currently used by phase 1 partners, like Conserve.io. See this thread for a 2024 discussion of the current Acartia observation type field values.
Coordination of this issue with any change in the Acartia data scheme could also be important.
@aalaydrus LMK if you think I'm missing something here!
