Telegram Desktop consumes up to 12–13 GB of RAM in background and releases it when the window is opened #30870

Description

@EduardShubin867

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start Telegram Desktop on Windows and leave it running in the background or minimized to the system tray.
  2. Continue using the computer normally for several hours.
  3. Open Windows Task Manager and check the Telegram.exe process.
  4. Telegram occasionally consumes approximately 12–13 GB of physical memory while its window is not open.
  5. Open or restore the Telegram Desktop window.
  6. The memory usage quickly drops back to approximately 600 MB–1.5 GB.

The issue has been observed repeatedly during the last three days. The exact trigger is currently unknown.

Expected behaviour

Telegram Desktop should maintain reasonable memory usage while running in the background. Its RAM consumption should not continuously grow to 12–13 GB.

Actual behaviour

While Telegram Desktop is running in the background, its memory usage can grow to approximately 12–13 GB.

After restoring or opening the Telegram window, most of this memory is released almost immediately.

The attached Task Manager screenshot was captured after the Telegram window had been opened and the memory usage had already dropped.

However, the same process still showed:

  • Peak working set: 12,981,704 KB
  • Current working set: 646,424 KB
  • Active private working set: 573,392 KB
  • Commit size / private bytes: 1,462,536 KB

The application did not crash. It remained responsive after the memory was released.
